Profile - About Me

Karl Lundgren

Although I specialize in Luxury, Upper Premium and River Cruising, I also sell every major cruise line and have managed over 1500 cruise reservations for my clients. I have an ambitious goal and that is to create the best customer experience in cruising. From my vast product knowledge to the in depth service I provide, it is my goal to deliver consummate concierge service to all my clients.

Areas of Specialty
Luxury cruising is a difficult product for many to understand. The high pricing of these products leave most cruisers intimidated. I specialize in breaking down the value of the luxury cruise brands. When you consider the significantly larger stateroom size, higher staff to guest ratio, improved amenities and the all-inclusive nature of these products it can often be a better deal in the end than booking a more contemporary cruise line.

The stuffy perception of luxury cruising couldn’t be farther from the truth. Some lines, such as Regent Seven Seas, take a more casual approach to cruising with no formal nights and a country club casual dress code. The smaller ships generally operated by luxury cruise lines visit smaller rarely seen ports creating unique itineraries. In short, luxury cruising is not for the super-rich, it’s for the well-travelled cruiser looking for an enhanced and unique cruise experience.
Traditionally, Ocean Cruise brands were commonly broken down into 4 segments (Contemporary, Premium, Luxury and Specialty). Ten years ago a new segment between Premium and Luxury cruising began to emerge with the birth of Oceania Cruises. A few years later Azamara Club Cruises was born and fit well in this segment. The historic brand Cunard, also found a home in this category of cruising as Upper Premium continued to emerge as its own segment. Today it’s a well-defined segment of cruising with 4 brands operating at this level (Oceania, Cunard, Azamara and Viking Ocean). These brands offer the high quality service, amenities and in many cases larger cabin size of the luxury brands. They also offer a more inclusive experience than premium and contemporary brands, but are typically not as all-inclusive as luxury brands

Working with a travel agent that understands these products is vital to having a successful trip on these brands. Small details such as when specialty dining becomes available to book online in advance of your trip with Oceania or what dining room you’ll have access to on Cunard depending on the cabin type you’ve booked. These small details on their own don’t seem like much, but as they add up they make a significant impact on your overall cruise experience.
Whether It’s Ama Waterways offering itineraries in Vietnam and Africa, Viking River Cruises sailing in China or Russia, or Avalon Waterways operating in Peru, river cruising is no longer exclusively associated with Europe. River cruising is the fastest growing segment in travel, but with the popularity come challenges in availability and pricing. This is where I come in. You tell me where you want to go and when you’d like to travel and I’ll find the deal that’s right for you.

A common misconception about river cruising is that they’re all the same. With River cruising, just like ocean cruising, there are different segments of river cruise brands and within each segment each brand offers its own areas of strength and weakness. In addition to this river cruise line websites are set up very differently than ocean cruise line websites making it difficult for guests to research products on their own. These factors make river cruising the segment of travel that most requires the help of a travel agent to book. Furthermore, it’s important to work with a travel agent that specializes in river cruising.

Client Testimonials
  • “It began with Karl noting the [cabin type] had very few cabins… which leads to opportunities and then went on to educate me in the dynamics of how the cruise line manages the remainder cabins to maximize revenue which includes offering deep discount upgrades! It was me watching an expert position my wife and I as the end game draws to a close. It demonstrated a deep understanding of the Cruise Line methods and having the experience to know those opportunities!

This is Customer Service at the highest level. I will never forget what Karl did for us along with numerous other times when he guided us from the beginning.

  • “I have found Karl’s service to be second to none. The reason I say this is because on each occasion I have booked a cruise with him, he has been completely honest and above board. He has never promised anything he could not or did not deliver. Also, I believe he has been very diligent in getting me the best possible value for my money in areas such as selecting the right cruise, the right room, the right price and at the most suitable time for me to travel. He has always been available to answer my questions and has answered them in plain English. In some cases, working with travel agents has taken much of the joy out of the vacation, but working with Karl makes me feel that I can trust his judgement in knowing that he will do his very best for me. This response may sound overdone but I have had negative experiences in the past with travel agents so I can truly appreciate the benefits and pleasures from working with a committed and concerned agent.”

Bob Hebert - Maple Ridge, BC, Canada
  • “When I referred Karl to our friends in Delaware, he didn't shy away from the fact that they had used other cruise specialists in the past, or that they were American and quite some distance apart. He earned their business by being professional. It is for that reason that Karl continues to be my cruise specialist. He is always prompt to contact me when I have questions or concerns, he keeps me updated with promotions that are running and is a straight shooter. Rather than beat around the bush, he has been upfront with us and that impresses me. I am very pleased to call Karl my cruise specialist and would not hesitate to refer him to associates of mine. Keep doing what you are doing Karl, as I am more than pleased with your service.”

Ken Trask - Surrey, BC, Canada
  • “We appreciated many things but the thing that really stands out in our minds is once Karl realized we were not computer people he got busy booking some of the things himself. You don't know what a relief that was! The side trip he arranged for Beijing was great. Everything on our trip was spot on. We will always keep Karl in mind for referrals because we have been very happy with his services. We always tell any travelling companions and friends about contacting Karl. ”

Gail and Kojo Asante - Maple Ridge, BC, Canada
  • “We are very happy with the service & suggestions Karl has given. Firstly, when we had to cancel a cruise to South America for November 2013, Karl was very compassionate & understanding with our reasons for cancellation....we appreciated that very much. As for our recent cruise, Karl was quick with responses, gave info regarding Princess cruise line and the Coral Princess; understood that we very much wanted a balcony room and suggested a good part of the ship where they might upgrade. We also appreciated his suggestions as to the restaurant (Italian) that we might wish to visit.....all these suggestions we like and appreciate......so Karl’s done well for us. We have nothing negative to say, so keep up the good work in sharing your knowledge & info.

For our trip you had also given us helpful information and we like that very much. We would not hesitate to call Karl for further trips in the future and pleased to recommend you to others. ”

Elli Mitchell & Nick Timms - White Rock, BC, Canada
  • “My husband, Doug, and I have been very happy with Karl’s service and we have recommended him to others. His telephone manner is very friendly, very knowledgeable and always professional. I would venture to say that most people who call Karl for his services are similar to my husband and I and are not very well informed re what is available in the way of travel, but they do know they want to travel. They have seen an ad, heard about a certain cruise or travel destination, or somehow made the decision to take a trip. Karl is able to provide information without making his clients feel totally uninformed. He answers questions but also provides additional information that enables travelers to make decisions and set up a great holiday. This provision of additional relevant information in a friendly, knowledgeable way, is what takes Karl from being a good cruise consultant to being an excellent cruise consultant!”
